These are just a few examples of the many cultural and historical treasures that can be found in Salou. Don't miss the opportunity to discover these and other treasures during your visit to Salou!
The monument evokes the historical date of September 5, 1229, the date on which the Catalan fleet led by King Jaume I left this point to conquer Majorca. The sculptural ensemble is made up of a sailing ship with the stone figure of King James I and the stone horse covered in gold leaf. The monument, which presides over the main promenade in Salou, was inaugurated on November 28, 1965 and is the work of the architect Salvador Ripoll and the sculptor Lluís Maria Saumells.
Built by Ciríac Bonet in 1918, it is the work of the architect Domènec Sugranyes i Gras, a disciple and collaborator of Gaudí. It is an example of the late modernist style and one of the most emblematic buildings in the city. On the main façade, a sundial with ceramic pieces and neo-Gothic letters summarizes the philosophy of life: "take advantage of the time that passes and does not return". Despite the fact that access is not allowed, the decoration is preserved inside mural by the painter Agustí Ferrer, of which the one on the ceiling of the dining room stands out, where the departure of King Jaume I from the beach of Salou to the conquest of Mallorca is represented.
La Torre Vella is an art center located on Arquebisbo Pere de Cardona street. This place is intended for painting exhibitions and the museum of contemporary enamel.
The Archbishop of Tarragona, Pere de Cardona, ordered the construction of this defense building in 1530 to protect the population and their property from pirate incursions into the Port of Salou, attracted by commercial fleets. The exterior presents the original appearance, with the heraldic shield on the portal. The tower is linked by a bridge to the outbuildings, built in the 18th century. The interior has been rehabilitated and is the headquarters of a cultural center dedicated mainly to art exhibitions.
